A straight laser beam is emitted horizontally onto a white wall.

The 5mW 650nm laser source is approximately 50cm away. I press my forehead against the sloping wall (under the roof) to keep my head steady, allowing me to watch without shaking or moving. At first, I see tiny, holographic-looking spheres. Then, as I focus my vision to see into the distance, I gradually see very small characters appear in the background, resembling katakana, Hebrew, and some special characters like those found in ASCII. The most surprising and illogical thing, considering I have my nose practically pressed against the wall to observe, is that I am nearsighted, and the characters were even clearer when I put on my glasses (to see clearly in the distance). The overall impression is that of looking at a celestial vault with characters instead of sky and stars, all through a mailbox.
