Heard a podcast recently and didn’t realize this was a thing. I have experienced seeing the code without lasers six or so years ago. Some sunlight was coming through the windows. It appeared in the middle of the room numerous times and places but because it was my first time I didn’t give it a ton of attention. It seemed alive in a sense, moving fast, and I was able to stop it for a few seconds by focusing on it and could see it clearly. I also saw it through the wall on the other side of a doorway. I opened the door to look on the other side of the wall and it was there. I didn’t recognize or understand the characters so I moved my attention to other things.

Summary

This retrospective report describes code-like visual phenomena occurring during a psychedelic experience after three draws from a vape pen, with sunlight present but no laser used. The observer reported rapidly moving, apparently structured visual patterns appearing at multiple locations, temporary stabilization and increased clarity through focused attention, and apparent perception through or beyond a wall and doorway.

Key Findings

  • •The reported phenomenon occurred without an intentional laser stimulus, suggesting that laser diffraction is not necessary for this individual’s experience of code-like visuals, although the role of sunlight remains unclear.
  • •The visual pattern was described as dynamic, fast-moving, and subjectively “alive,” with episodes of apparent stabilization lasting several seconds when attention was directed toward it.
  • •The observer reported recognizing code-like characters but not understanding or identifying their symbolic content.
  • •The phenomenon appeared repeatedly in different locations in the room and was reportedly observed through a wall on the other side of a doorway; this may reflect altered spatial perception, visual completion, or a mislocalization of internally generated imagery, but the report cannot distinguish among these possibilities.
  • •The exposure was approximately three draws from a vape pen, but the substance, dose, concentration, timing, and inhalation protocol were not specified, limiting interpretation of dose–effect relationships.

Patterns Identified

Visual Patterns

  • • Recurrent code-like or character-like structures were reported across multiple apparent locations rather than as a single fixed projection.
  • • The pattern was perceived as moving rapidly and possessing a degree of apparent agency or liveliness; this is a phenomenological description rather than evidence of autonomous behavior.
  • • Focused attention was associated with temporary increases in stability and clarity, suggesting that attentional allocation may modulate the experience.
  • • The report includes apparent persistence across spatial boundaries, including observation through or beyond a wall, which is notable but cannot be independently verified from the account.

Behavioral Patterns

  • • The participant initially gave the phenomenon limited attention because it was a first-time and poorly understood experience.
  • • Direct concentration reportedly stopped or stabilized the movement for several seconds, indicating perceived interaction between attention and visual dynamics.
  • • The participant subsequently redirected attention away from the imagery because the characters were not recognized or understood.
  • • The experience was reported retrospectively, approximately six or more years after occurrence, so details may be affected by memory reconstruction.

Technical Patterns

  • • No laser was used during the reported event, despite a recorded laser wavelength of 400 nm; therefore, the 400 nm parameter appears not to describe the stimulus actually producing the experience.
  • • Sunlight entering through windows was the only explicitly described optical stimulus, but its intensity, direction, reflections, and interaction with surfaces were not measured.
  • • Projection distance is listed as 1 m, but no projection apparatus or target surface was identified, making this parameter difficult to interpret.
  • • The administration consisted of three vape-pen draws, but key pharmacological and timing variables were absent.

Scientific Insights

Scientific Significance

The report broadens the phenomenological range of Code of Reality-like experiences by documenting code-like visuals in the absence of a deliberate red-laser stimulus. It raises the possibility that diffraction-based optical conditions may facilitate or shape the experience in some cases but are not necessary for all reported instances. However, the observation is a single, retrospective, uncontrolled account and does not establish that the perceived code was externally present, optically projected, or independent of altered visual processing. The apparent modulation by attention is potentially relevant to models involving visual salience, predictive processing, imagery, and attentional stabilization.

Methodological Notes

The account has useful phenomenological details, including movement, apparent liveliness, attentional modulation, repeated occurrence, and spatial extent. Its evidential strength is limited by retrospective reporting, absence of contemporaneous notes or recordings, lack of a named substance and measured dose, unknown time from administration to onset, and no control conditions. The discrepancy between “no lasers” and the listed 400 nm laser wavelength should be resolved before including the case in technical comparisons. Reports of seeing through a wall should be treated as subjective spatial-localization observations, not as evidence of anomalous perception, unless independently tested with concealed targets and controlled viewing conditions.

Recommendations

Future studies should prospectively record substance identity, measured dose, vape composition, number and timing of draws, baseline visual status, onset and duration, sleep and environmental conditions, and participant expectations. Optical conditions should be documented quantitatively, including sunlight intensity, angle, reflections, surface texture, room illumination, and any laser wavelength or power actually used. Researchers should use structured real-time reports, repeated trials, video or eye-tracking where feasible, and control conditions involving ordinary sunlight, diffuse illumination, and matched non-psychedelic sessions. To test attentional effects, participants could rate movement and clarity during alternating periods of focused and diverted attention. Claims of spatial persistence or perception through barriers should be evaluated with blinded layouts, hidden targets, and independent scoring to distinguish external optical stimuli from internally generated or mislocalized imagery.

influence description

I focused on it ever so slightly, like I would on other objects during previous breakthroughs. I could then stop the movement and make them clearer to see. I didn’t try touching it to manipulate it like I have in other experiences with objects (geometric shapes) etc.

where else seen

Once again this was not my intention as I had not heard of this before. The bigger more readable parts were essentially in the 2-3 areas of the room, maybe due to sunlight. Everything around me was alive so it very well could have been all around me but some of the detail was lost as it was very small but everywhere and very alive.
